Asking for and Receiving Treats

It’s Wishcasting Wednesday and Jamie Ridler asks: “What Treats  Do You Wish For?

My first answer is always *peace* and *chocolate*.

Let’s go a bit deeper.

I rarely, if ever, think of a treat for myself.

As a single mom of two teens, I made the choice to stay at home with them while building this business. We live on an ultra-tight budget, so if there is extra money I use it to add quality to the children’s lives. (Quality to me tends to be an experience rather than a physical/material something, but to them it can mean anything from takeout pizza to movie tickets to clothing.)

However, as I facilitate the current session of Manifesting Money Miracles, I am beginning to explore / open to the idea of creating and connecting from the feel of physical abundance.  (I understand energetic abundance and center into love and gratitude each morning and throughout the day to share from such a space).

So, for the first time in a long time, I decided to treat myself while the children were at their dads. I took $20 and went to Trader Joe’s and bought my favorite chocolate and items I normally would serve to guests if I were hosting a dinner party.  I cleaned our home and set the energy, picked flowers and put them in a vase, played music and reveled in the treat of peace, joy, abundance, by myself.

My life is full of people – our home is open to many – I share my heart daily with loved ones and strangers, so to be home, by myself, surrounded by *treats* was divine. All it “cost” was $20 – do-able yet, for so long, my mind made it into an insurmountable barrier.

(I would like to note that I spend lots of time in nature, daily – to view the sunset, take miles-long beach walks, play in the hills – but I consider that essential to my well-being, not necessarily “a treat”.)

My *today list* of treats I wish for:

Energetic: abundant, consistent love and appreciation; peace, joy, laughter, genuine connection in my home; ample space, time and energy to experiment with, and explore, creative expression; full trust in the process of presence to organic growth.

Physical: hand-picked flowers, dark chocolate with any kind of nut, a full tank of gas in the car (oh my, that is a good one!), a full-body massage, candle-light, beach picnics, an easel with a drop-cloth and canvas so I may paint, a clothes shopping spree for myself and the children, leisurely Sunday morning brunch… and I have for a few years now had Thursdays off completely (no kids or work) – my heart wishes to share that day and evening, weekly, with a special love.

I look at, and feel into these lists and my mind automatically starts to negotiate – as if wishes were limited. Thoughts like “I would trade all of the physical to experience the energetic” and “I would trade in the chocolate for a full tank of gas” begin to arise.

What I know for sure is that infinite possibility is real – there is no need to negotiate one “blessing” for another or to receive one treat instead of several. And, we may receive treats, daily – throughout each day – for no other reason than it is *possible and fun* to do so (meaning it doesn’t have to be a special calendar day to receive a treat – although it can be!).

My heart whispers “Yes, please”.

So it is and so it shall be.

Thank you for receiving my wishes!  What treats do you wish for?

Much peace and abundant love,

Joy

  1. it is always somewhat amazing to me that we forget just how wonderful – and often inexpensive – “treats” can be. For me it’s often a really good cup of coffee and the quiet time to enjoy it leisurely, without someone or some fur baby, coming to interrupt me.

As you wish for yourself, so I wish for you too!

    • Thank you for the visit and affirmation, Jen!

This *the quiet time to enjoy it leisurely* is a luxury that many do without/sacrifice for some sort of busyness…I love that you enjoy that time as you do!

  2. Hi Joy,
My wish is for peace and purpose. The thought of both makes me smile and feel balanced!
Trick or treat? It’s not a trick – ask and…
    :-)
    Lori

    • Peace and purpose is a wonderful wish, Lori – as you wish for your self, so I too wish for you as well!

I love *tricks*, when I am in on them…and treats are absolutely delightful!

      Love to you!

I am so glad that you get that much time in Nature, Joy. That is one thing that I crave and don’t get often enough. I so get several long walks every week, but I used to get a long walk every day. I keep looking for ways to get out more, and that is my intention. I know that I will not give up on intending to get out everyday for a good long walk. It is good for the body and the spirit!. I have huge windows in my studio, so it feels like being outside sometimes—–but I love my hill walks which make me feel alive!
I wish for you what you wish for yourself, Joy!
    Love and peace to you!

    • Thank *you*, Jean…for the affirmation and for the blessings!

I choose to spend time in Nature – I give so much of myself in a day, willingly and joyfully, nature is where I refresh and restore…*and* where I meet divine…Sometimes I have to put aside the busyness and just get out here…which then enlivens my spirit and creative expression just flows…

Your windows sounds fabulous, as do your hill walks!

I wish for you as you wish for yourself…love to you, too!

  4. Hi Joy. I’m looking forward to your Manifesting Money sessions coming up. In the meantime I have decided to treat myself to a Chakra Balancing full body massage. I have realised that it has been a long time since I made time to really give myself some pampering and having the chakras balanced at the same time will hopefully give me the lift I need and make me more open to receiving the messages in your sessions and giving back to my community. Lynn

    • Thank you, Lynn, for your presence! I am excited to share the Manifesting Money class together – it is great fun for the students to participate in (not so much fun for me…I have a bit of inner work to do and “lost” more money during class than in a very long time!).

Your Chakra Balancing Full Body massage sounds absolutely wonderful…to clear and amplify your energy as your physical body receives pampering…wow! I love chakra balancing and I love massage but hadn’t had the experience of the two combined!

  5. So often in the busyness of our lives, we forget to take time to celebrate ourselves. Life goes by so quickly…taking a few hours a week to honor our own spirit should be at the top of our to-do lists. And it’s really simple things that can make a difference. I hear you on the dark chocolate, Joy! Yummy! One of my favs. :)

Wishing you a beautiful weekend, Joy!

    • Thank you, Talon, for the reflection and affirmation!

This: *taking a few hours a week to honor our own spirit* is so powerful …. we think we don’t have “resources” (time, energy, money) but all that is required is presence to the awareness and the feel of honoring spirit in so many ways that are *free*.

      Dark chocolate lovers unite *grin*.
