Unity J Schmidt: Finding Home

For the month of January, the theme of this site is an exploration of the energy of home.

Home as a sacred container in which we feel comfortable resting, creating, connecting, experimenting, celebrating.

Home as a physical body that transports us throughout our day, host to our heart, mind and soul.

Home as Mother Earth…as Universe...this place where we live.

Home as a heart experience not specific to a physical location….a feeling of comfort, safety, security, bliss.

As we feel into this energy together, you may find yourself quite comfortable with the exploration, you may find yourself at an edge. It is my request that you share from the space that you are in with an understanding that your perspective and experience enriches the quality and feel of this exploration, for all whom read and walk these energetic steps together.

Today, I am delighted to share this Facets space with Unity J Schmidt!

 Finding Home

by Unity J. Schmidt

What will be ‘home’ to my children? That thought drives me forward, and yet at the same time, it reminds me to stay present.

When we were pregnant with our son, this little indigo-crystal warrior had our lives on fast-forward; suddenly my husband and I were in Oz (Oz, Australia, though it felt like “The Wizard of Oz” at times). He was working on the visual effects for the film “300” and I was making friends with intuitives, healers and angel therapists, discovering that I was ‘one of them,’ and discovering even more of me.

Before our son came, we were taken around the world and back again, and really had to ask ourselves: “Where is home for us?” And “what will home be for him?” Move onward to 4-months after his arrival, and we were pregnant (again!) with his soon-to-be little sister. We knew our son brought with him a fast-track (yet every day “present”) momentum for our life, from the moment I pulled a beautiful oracle card called “Nurture” surrounded by angels, before our trip abroad had even started, and we had that call to fly to Oz.

Move forward to present day. “Home” is back in Canada, in a city called Hamilton where it turns out we were all to be born and raised. Yet, my husband and I came to understand “home” isn’t really here, or Oz, or anywhere else. It’s something that lives inside of us, that we build all around us with our daily choices, and that we must choose each day to rediscover and stay tuned to the present love of it all. “Home.”

What Is Home?

The best gift of ‘home’ we realized, that we can give our children, is all of us, right here, right now. And room for them, where ever they are called to go and roam. So, how do we figure out how to give them that ‘home’ for them, for me, for my husband, for all of us? How do we stay together and bring ‘home’ into being?

Home Starts with Love

The first step, is “love.” This is always the first step, yet it can be the greatest challenge. To choose to navigate fully from this space is bold and risky, and required my husband Phi to walk away from film and television,  and myself to step out of the ‘spiritual closet’ and into the public realm of healing work and counselling.

Most of all, it required us to say to each other, “How do we make this right for them (our children)?” And that question is still our navigating compass towards ‘home.’ Whether that be the vegetarian lifestyle we suddenly adopted, the colours we paint the walls, the pets we bring into ‘home’ to share our adventures, the community we give our children to grow and flourish, the new location we are called to move to, and the list goes on and on.

Home Builds with Routines

Although the address may change, and the walls may be built by different hands, the routines we build, builds ‘home’ itself. Through routines, we give our ‘home’ a seed with roots to grow strong, sunshine to sprout new possibilities, and fertility to blossom and bear fruit. These routines may be as simple as bedtime cuddles and stories every night, or as complicated as juggling homeschool, martial arts, jazz, ballet, tap, swimming, horseback, playdates, ice-skating, and most of all, love for the moment, appreciation for the ‘gift’ of life, and affection for the ‘simple things’ and those we love to love.

Home Grows with Trust

On this ‘firewalk’ of building ‘home,’ and walking away from anything and everything that does not feel like home to us, there are moments where we must take great risks, and make choices that others may not understand, yet still we must trust to grow. We must trust when we are guided, we must trust when ‘home’ changes, and we must trust when pain comes to show us new purpose, and new roots.

Home Knows No Limits

‘Home’ is in our hearts, is on our minds, and lives through the choices we weave together around our little family. And so far, as long as love is the guiding compass, I believe ‘home’ will always be here and now, and will never have any walls or obstacles we cannot paint with love, nor need any specific location besides each other. For as they say, “Home is where the heart is,” and so ‘home’ it shall always be!

Thank you for sharing, Unity!

As I read Unity’s article, I cried.

I love Unity’s energy and message; she is a friend who also teaches and guides me. Reading her words reminds me of the path I took (am still taking) with my own children. I wanted them to live a feel of peace and possibility and I energetically gifted that experience to them when they were younger and we all create together now.

Only I felt “homeless”.  For they had what I felt I didn’t – connection and presence with parents and a feel of family and unconditional love within family.

I am learning to understand this is my home as well – not solely “theirs”.  *This* as the physical structure we live in *and* also the bond we each share and the energetic boundary around us as we continue to explore and experiment in our sacred space of home. I am learning to celebrate *being home*.

As you practice presence, you can turn a reflection such as this one, inward and apply it to your inner child as well.  It’s a potent, powerful, potentially healing and enlivening practice to consider your inner child and his/her needs.

May you share, dear reader, where have you “found home” and what does that feel like and physically look like…what would you like to share about *your home*?  (when you share, you inspire)

Thank you for your presence!

Much peace and abundant love,

Joy
