Afterglow of Valentine’s Day sunset 2015
Love Beyond Love by Jeff Foster
Love, knowing that the one you love may not be here tomorrow,
knowing that today may be your last day to truly meet,
knowing that you cannot know how the story ends.
For what is left in this life if you have nothing to lose?
Care, care deeply, care until it hurts, care in spite of what people say,
in spite of ridicule and rejection and being misunderstood,
care so much that you no longer care what happens to you.
Sink, sink willingly, into this bitter-sweet mystery of love,
never knowing what love is and loving anyway,
like a fool, like a fascinated child, like a madman,
like one who has forgotten how to be cynical, or how to be right.
Love until your voice trembles, and your heart pounds, and your legs shake,
and your philosophies crumble to dust, and your cleverness bows its head in shame and in reverence.
And you will be taken to the darkest places,
and your heart will be set on fire by the ones to whom you were never able to open your heart,
and you will be reminded of what you have always, secretly, known:
That in time, you will forget everything, except how to die, and how to love.
This poem, and a few others, can be found on Jeff Foster’s poetry page. I love Jeff’s work – his book “The Deepest Acceptance” is one of my all-time favorites.
I have been reading poetry for my ‘I Believe in Magic 30-Day Photo Journey’ ecourse which this session has a theme of exploring heart energy via poetry. (Registration is open through Feb 16th, if you’d like to join in, please do!) That also explains why all of a sudden my recent articles are full of poetry – something I read touches my heart and I feel the nudge to share it with you in case it touches yours as well.
We tend to fear ‘dark places, fire and death’ so I like to pass along inspiration to love into and through that. The way I learn best is through sharing personal stories – I can feel into the reality far easier than a teaching from a book and turn that energy inward to apply to my life.
While the above sunset looks magnificent, the story in it is that I intentionally went when I was feeling sad. At a time when I wanted to close, I instead went straight to a space that I meet Divine.
It seems that when I show up to sunset with the willingness and desire ‘to be moved’, I am rewarded with this stunning display of darkness, light and color – a visual that leaves no doubt about inner essence energy and the depth of love available when we allow ourselves to feel it.
I was barefoot, wading in the water, texting with a friend (I am so grateful my friend texted in – like a gift from God reminding me of the joy of heart connection, right when I needed reminding!). I saw fiery red at my toes, so I looked up into this gloriousness. And I made myself breathe it in. And I let that energy touch every cell of my being. Then, I took this photo. (And I sent it to my friend as a thank you gift. Now I’m sharing it with you, so you can feel it, too.)
My truth is that I’m not afraid of darkness, fire or death – I understand the elements and energy and have in some way spent years of my life (either physically or energetically) in – or close to – each. In part, that is why I am good at guiding people through crisis and transition stages in their life – I take my life experience; mix it with patience, trust in unfolding and Source, knowledge of practices of presence and energy movement; love and compassion for people and I can move myself (or you) through those constricted spaces, with a feeling of peace and possibility.
My fear is that brilliance that you see in the photos I share. For years, I didn’t feel worthy to be standing there basking in it, and I certainly didn’t think that was a reflection of my inner essence energy. I let that sunshine open my heart, intentionally, and now I ask it to keep my heart open and to infuse my creative expressions and connections.
How light-filled can we allow our space, being, creations be?! I want that experience, please!
Dear Reader: There is so much stuff out there ‘attacking’ Love. So, let’s do something different. May you share with me (and other readers) a love story from your life? Tell me about a heart connection that lights your life – it doesn’t have to be romantic (although it can be). Let’s celebrate Love together.
Thank you for your presence!!
Much peace and abundant love,

Registration is open through February 20th.
Connecting and Creating with Intention – a 30-day ecourse beginning February 26th. An invitation to feel the fullness of connection available within a sacred container (in this case, the class forum) and to feel the potency of being supported as you set an intention and create in alignment with that intention. Coaching (by me) is included.
