Choosing to be Present as You Are, and Allowing Source to Work Magic

I just logged into my website, all set to write an article to open this *New* Year of 2017, feeling into the idea of opening the new year by stating what we are open and willing to give, joyfully, in love to the experience of this year (instead of focusing on what we are going to get – what we want the new year to give us) when two things caught my attention:

1. I’d already written this article, last January!! (at least I’m consistent in my thoughts and practices around opening each new year – or block of time throughout the year – with intention).

If you’d like to read this article, please click the title link “Amplifying Possibility by Removing Your Focus From What You Want the New Year to Give You to *What You Are Willing to Give the New Year*“.

2. The last article I’d written is dated November 16, 2015! Wow. It’s titled “It’s Not Always Easy to Connect to Light, But it is Always Possible“. I spent much of Fall and the beginning of Winter applying this principle.

So, first, it’s good to ‘be back’!

I love sharing my time, energy, skill, presence via Facets of Joy – here on my blog, in my social media forums and spaces and through personal coaching, intuitive soul call card readings and any ecourses or other offerings I share.

I didn’t realize I had temporarily paused so much in my life; in hindsight, I understand how it happened and definitely *why* it happened.

Again, the bulk of it is not my story to tell, but, I am giving full-time support to a loved one in a crisis (and have been since Fall). And in the unfolding of events in that, I am learning how powerful these practices of presence can be, how life-changing fierce love can be and how when we choose to show up, with love, *everything truly is possible*.

In this process I am learning to love myself through each step of life, listen to and follow through with my intuitive knowing even when people in authority disagree with me, and to keep connecting to people and light-filled spaces and activities that amplify the feeling of goodness in my life.

You will see all of this deepening, healing and growing show up in my work throughout this year and likely the next few.

While I was processing all of that, amidst the doings of daily life, there was also much-needed deep rest and lots of ‘just’ being. And, in that, there was peace – whole-body peace – that wove it’s way through each area of my life.

And, in that, I re-discovered my passion for spinning magic, dance, hosting small get-togethers in my home. All of this meant that I was plugging in, connecting, during great vulnerability and with a bit of heart-pain – when I would normally have chosen to withdraw until I understood more about where what I was in was going and I had healed a bit of that pain.

I learned (am still learning) so much, and it’s going to be wonderful to share it with you as this year unfolds!!

Let’s “catch up” by starting with today, the first day of this New Year of 2017.

I’ve seen all kinds of posts today talking about how the numerological energy of this year is a 1 (meaning new beginnings, re-birth, and renewal). 2017: 2+0+1+7=10. 10: 1+0=1.

New beginnings. Great manifesting energy. And all of the feelings you associate with new beginnings and manifesting.

Understandably, some people have associations that make them skittish about new beginnings while others have associations that make them excited about new beginnings. And it’s not an ‘either/or’ kind of thing – you might be feeling the spectrum of it all.

Whatever you are feeling is okay and I ask that you consider doing some inner work to understand what you are feeling and why you are feeling it, instead of judging yourself for it.

And, if you are excited, please remember that is awesome, marvelous, wonderful!!! Share that with world, in all of the ways that you wish, if that’s how you are feeling (even if – especially if – those around you are feeling differently).

Just, let’s all understand that how we are feeling isn’t ‘right or wrong’.

And how we feel doesn’t make us ‘better or less than’ another who feels differently.

How I am Feeling and What I’m Focusing On (You May Join Me in this Focus if You Wish)

While I’m so glad to ‘turn the page’ and experience newness, I also recognize (based on the unfolding of Fall’s events in my life) that doors might open to something that doesn’t feel the best, or isn’t what I wanted; just as easily doors might open to something that feels amazing and good and is *exactly what I’ve been working toward/wishing for”.

I’m going to love myself through the unfolding of each day and I’m going to stay connected to source energy, using practices that are familiar and comfortable to me and exploring new practices (because I know if I ‘want to experience new results, I need to take new actions’).

All I truly have control over is how I feel and what I choose to focus on as doors open (and close) and what I choose to create with the variables I am given (and drawing in).

I don’t have control over ‘what this year is going to give me’. I do have control over how I feel as this year unfolds.

So, I am choosing to focus my attention on what I am willing and able to bring into this moment – as far as presence, skill, open-heartedness, faith, etc. – and what I can create with it in this moment.

The ‘magic’ happens when I show up and source energy meets me. So, I’m going to do my part in being present and I’m going to trust that source will flow in possibility, blessings, delightful synchronicity, clear signs and lovely guides.

With That, To Celebrate this New Year, I Will Pull an Intuitive Soul Call Card For You, if You’d Like One

I am loving sharing energy, clarity and heart guidance through the intuitive soul call cards!

I like the feel of the words in the cards and I like the accuracy when I pull them for myself or a client.

Since I am all about following threads of love and joy in my life, you’ll see these intuitive soul call cards show up in most of my offerings in some way.

For today, I am offering to pull an intuitive soul call card for you. Since you can be reading this any day the blog exists, today = now through Monday January 2, 2017 11p (pacific time).

If you would like me to pull one intuitive soul call card for you to feel into and use this week, this month, whatever block of time you’d like, please just leave a ‘yes, please, pull one intuitive soul call card for me’ request in the comments below. Each person who leaves a comment (by the ‘deadline’ above) will receive their own card. I will post the card and any insights along with it, in a response comment to you.

If you like the feel of the cards and the guidance you receive (either from this, or if you’ve previously had a reading with me), you might be interested in a 2017 Year-Overview Reading – available to purchase through January 31, 2017).

Dear Reader: Two things: If you’d like me to pull one intuitive soul call card for you, let me know in the comments below.

And, as you consider what you’d like to give this new year (what you are willing to be present with as this year unfolds), I invite you to share your answer in the comments below (because we are each inspired when you share and your voice matters to this conversation!).

So much love to you and blessings as you begin feeling into, and experiencing, this new year!!

Much peace,

Joy

  1. Welcome back, Joy! So happy you are writing in this space again. Yes, I would love for you to pull a soul card for me. Thank you, lovely one!

    • Hi Sandra,

Thank you for your kind words!!

When I pull cards and read them, I like to share the physical space to kind of ‘bring it to Earth’ but also because sometimes there is a message in it that speaks to the recipient.

So….I just finished a year-overview reading and used that space to pull your card. I smudged myself and the cards with white sage. I have a glittery orange place-mat to place the cards on. I know we don’t need to use stones or crystals but I like them so I use them with intention. I have on my table a selenite wand (great for Angel communication), a Septarian stone (improves communication) and a Chrysocolla stone (also about communication – supporting an ability and desire to listen to and speak your heart truth). I also have a gold butterfly decoration on the table (symbolizing fun and joy in transformation).

It’s important to note that today the usually blue skies are overcast with heavy grey clouds, and it’s chilly. But, I didn’t notice that because the space I’m in feels warm and cozy and light-filled (I think because I’ve been pulling readings so I’m really centered and enjoying the moment). I was surprised to peek outside and find that external isn’t ‘optimal’ for sunbathing, or beach-going, say (but likely optimal for inspiring warmth in other ways – I like to look for the positive in things.)

With that, the card I pulled for you is *edge*.

There are many definitions of ‘edge’. I like to think of edge as a border (like in a garden). It’s placement clearly defines where concentrated growth can happen (and is likely focused upon) and where things are allowed to naturally cycle, or aren’t paid attention to and grow as they may. Right? On the garden side of edging is ‘intentional and carefully cultivated growth’ and on the opposite side there can still be growth, but it’s going to be whatever (including weeds) chooses to grow there. This ‘edging’ then, directs our attention and focus on what we wish to grow.

This, then, speaks to boundaries and the ease and joy of working with, and within, them. We can choose what boundaries we place, and where we place them, they allow for growth, they give us a ‘section’ to focus on.

It could also mean ‘the edge of a cycle’ as in you’ve completed one stage and life, energy, variables, flow are about to unfold to another stage. It can be easy, gentle, natural, joyful (some people have associations with edge that it hurts, and I like to remind us of the ‘positive’ in it.

I invite you to feel into that and see if there is any meaning for you.

Of *course*, there is a meaning of edge, as in close to the end of one’s comfort zone, or an energy or variable that triggers one to discomfort. But I don’t feel that’s what wishes to stand out, here. I just want to acknowledge it so you know I didn’t skip over it and am not avoiding it.

I find, if you allow what I’ve presented to settle, as you move through your day, some ‘aha’ will happen and this message will speak directly to you and make sense.

If you have any questions, or would like to share any insights or feedback, please do.

Love to you!!! And blessings as your week unfolds!

  2. Happy New Year, and Happy New You, JJ!
Welcome back. Yes, I would like to pull soul card for me
    Thank you!
Blessings for your day, and week ahead. :-)

    • Hi Naike,

Thank you for the heart-smile with your presence and words!!

With that, the card I pulled for you is *free*.

Well, dang, that makes me smile (I hope it makes you smile, too).

I will say this. I have been thinking lately of how many ‘free’ offers and options there are and how sometimes we can stock up on all of the ‘free stuff’ (we as a society, in general) and it becomes clutter. Along with that feeling, judgment, shame, guilt often flow in (due to the clutter). So there is something about discernment with where we vest our time, energy, presence, skill set and attention. And also ‘releasing’ (becoming free of) self-judgment, shame, guilt and what is possible when we release all of those energies (and that clutter) – we gift our being spaciousness and infinite possibility (through the release, not through the ‘doing’ of anything). Maybe there is something in that for you.

When I think of free….it’s unbound, not restrictive, usually joyful, our body is typically at peace within this ‘freedom’, we can choose what we love and who we connect with and what we want to create, grow, build based on our our own desires, preferences, heart guidance. We play with creative expression because it’s fun, and we share because that’s fun, too. Free implies flow is present, and usually joy, delight, pleasure, etc.

But what if we don’t feel free? We can do two things (well, many things, but here are two). One: We can notice the spaces we don’t feel free, simply notice, and choose to understand why we don’t feel free and love ourselves through that. Without changing anything, just choosing to be loving, encouraging, compassionate, kind, with our self-talk, self-support, and actions. Two: We can understand why we don’t feel free in that space or spaces and build in the feeling of freedom in spaces we can control (like our body, our mind, our heart, our physical home, etc.) so we feel freedom, in general, even when we don’t feel it in specific spaces.

And, we can choose to do practices, activities, movements that amplify the feeling of freedom, even if we feel energetically stuck in something and don’t yet feel clarity about direction or path.

In the spaces in which you feel free, please do remember to celebrate!! Woo-hoo!

In the spaces in which you don’t feel free, please do remember to turn love, kindness, compassion, inward and then celebrate that you are gifting yourself in a beautiful way!! Woo-hoo!

I invite you to feel into that and see if there is any meaning for you.

I find, if you allow what I’ve presented to settle, as you move through your day, some ‘aha’ will happen and this message will speak directly to you and make sense.

If you have any questions, or would like to share any insights or feedback, please do.

Love to you!!! And blessings as your week unfolds!

Thank you for your gentle guidance and I wish you peace, love and joy for your journey. I would be delighted if you could please pull a soul card for me. Namaste’

    • Hi Vicki,

Thank you for the warm welcome back! I love what you’ve shared here and I feel joy emanating from your words as you choose to fully embrace and celebrate your experience of life!! And, thank you for your kinds words!

When I pull cards and read them, I like to share the physical space to kind of ‘bring it to Earth’ but also because sometimes there is a message in it that speaks to the recipient.

So….earlier today, I finished a year-overview reading and used that space this evening to pull your card.

It’s important to note that it’s evening now and today’s heavy grey clouds have dispersed a bit – enough for the crescent moon to be visible, not quite enough to see the stars. It’s still chilly, but the space I’m in feels warm and cozy and light-filled (I think because I’ve been pulling readings so I’m really centered and enjoying the moment). I think that speaks to our ability to choose what ‘to focus on’, which directly affects how we feel as we experience life.

With that, the card I pulled for you is *Earth* (it’s capitalized on the card).

I find that interesting because above I noted how much you seem to enjoy life, here on earth. While many heart-centered people often speak about feeling like they ‘don’t belong’ or prefer ethereal to grounded, here you are celebrating life, as it is, as you are. And open to sharing that joy as you move through your day!! It’s beautiful and inspiring – and maybe even affirms your path or direction.

I think the message in the card is more than that. I was listening to an Access Consciousness audio last week and the idea the facilitator was presenting was about intentionally receiving from Mother Earth what she’d like to share with us, in terms of ‘wisdom and energetic feedback’ but also physically. He suggested that we speak to Mother Earth and let her know we are ready to receive whatever she’d like to share – to allow her to gift us. I love the idea and have been playing with it (and receiving in return some of the most magnificent, mind-blowing, heart-opening sunsets). Along with that beauty, though, allowing her to gift us affirmation and signs and refreshment and resources that make life easier and more fun to live. Maybe there is a message in that for you.

And, of course, the flip side of that is doing our best to love Mother Earth and to take actions that help to preserve her beauty and amplify her resources instead of deplete them.

When I see “Earth” in the soul call cards, and I feel into your energy – it feels like it’s about exploring new places and ‘planting seeds’ (energetic and maybe physical gardening, tilling the soil, growing crops?) and enjoying the process. If you’re used to and love mountain terrain, perhaps explore desert or ocean. If you’re used to tropical adventures perhaps explore northern areas. It feels like an invitation to playfully explore, not to be too serious or have too much structure, but to feel that refreshment – and to add to the refreshment (via your energy and presence) of the places you visit.

And the question for your heart, with this card, would be ‘what do you want to experience while here on Earth?’ and how do you want to feel as you experience it? That answer will change as the year unfolds, but within each answer is a directional sign for your path, and likely your ‘purpose’.

I invite you to feel into that and see if there is any meaning in it for you.

I find, if you allow what I’ve presented to settle, as you move through your day, some ‘aha’ will happen and this message will speak directly to you and make sense.

If you have any questions, or would like to share any insights or feedback, please do.

Love to you!!! And blessings as your week unfolds!

I wish to share beauty and wonder in my art and in my life in 2017. I would appreciate you choosing a soul card that will speak to my inner-most being. Love to you!

    • Hi Linda,

I look forward to seeing the beauty and wonder in your art (and blessings as these energies weave through your life)!

When I pull cards and read them, I like to share the physical space to kind of ‘bring it to Earth’ but also because sometimes there is a message in it that speaks to the recipient.

So….earlier today, I finished a year-overview reading and used that space this evening to pull your card.

With that, the card I pulled for you is *magic* (this is my favorite of the deck!!).

And I love love love how it ties in with your intention! For, I feel creating art *is* the expression of magic – heart energy and skill and presence to both! And here you are creating. And what people will feel as they view what you create is that energy, which may move, inspire, encourage them – also magical.

Let’s back up, though. Because you might have associations with magic (which is fine, we each have our own associations). So, this is an invitation to understand those associations. And, lots of people have a (usually limiting) idea of what is or isn’t possible for them, to do, create, be, share, receive back in. So, this is an invitation to feel into that, for yourself, as it relates to magic, and art (since you mentioned art).

What if you truly believed you were a magical being and your creative expressions were full of that magic – that had potential to touch each person that connected with it (it being your presence in person and via your art)? What might open up for you, within? What might change about how you created and where you shared your creative expressions (and maybe even how much you charge for them if you sell them)? When you allow this magic to flow through you, what might change for the people you engage with? (all questions for you to consider, not necessarily to answer here, although you may).

But, here is why I love the placement of the card ‘magic’ for you. Because you used the word wonder – and a few threads weaving into the energy of wonder are: awe, joy, delight, gratitude, love. We can’t just ‘conjure up’ wonder – it’s something we feel, tap into, tune into, open to, allow to flow through us. How magical is that!! (I am smiling as I type – what a fun card!)

The base invitation is to allow yourself to be magic, allow magic to flow through you, allow yourself to receive back in and experience all of the ways (resonant with love) that magic wishes to manifest in your life. Wow!!!

With that, I am sure ‘magic’ speaks to you in a specific way and has a meaning for you in a specific area.

I find, if you allow what I’ve presented to settle, as you move through your day, some ‘aha’ will happen and this message will speak directly to you and make sense.

If you have any questions, or would like to share any insights or feedback, please do ask and/or share.

Love to you!!! And blessings as your week unfolds!

Thank you so much, Joy! This resonates deeply, and works perfectly with my word of the year, Behold. Sending much love your way!

  5. Joy!

What a timely and beautiful message to read today of all days, as I have been struggling to feel excitement and not stress in my “New Year Resolutions” phase of planning…

I read your article from the previous year and it so resonated with me…and gave me a great new perspective to re-frame my questions for my new year!

I am glad to see you “back here” and have been intrigued by your soul caller card reading offerings since I first saw them here, so perhaps now is the time to use that tool for visioning my coming 12 months…

I’m sorry I *missed* the deadline on your sampling offer, though it’s great you shared these above here for all to read, because simply from reading each of these others’ card readings, I can connect with the energy of each word you describe, and see how it resonates (or doesn’t) with my current life, feeling, energy…

I love coming back to your blog every time I feel that (now familiar) nudge to “see what you’ve been up to”, because I am always filled with hope and lightness, and what you share here brings such a sense of peace and acceptance of “what is” and acceptance of myself “as I am”…and what a gift to share with the world! Thank you, for sharing all you do here, and with everyone in your presence.

    Much Love,

    Molly

    • Hi Molly,

Maybe the reason you feel less excitement in your New Year’s planning is because something needs to be ‘cleaned’ or blessed as you let it go or lovingly close a door. And, it might be that the source of your plans are thoughts around ‘should/have to’ *or* may lead to change you are projecting ahead to. So, this is a reminder to center, feel into what lights your heart and life and allow those threads of joy, love, gratitude to guide you.

Since you are considering a year-overview reading: I just pulled a 2017 Year-Overview Reading – it’s quite thorough. This particular one was 29 pages in PDF form – kind of like it’s own little e-book. The ‘best’ feature in it, besides the heart guidance, is the format of breaking it down within the PDF to an ‘answer’ to your question, via a 3-card reading, then each card for the month has it’s own page (or two) so you can easily refer back to specific sections if the entire reading feels like a lot. When I use this format for myself, it helps me to find a bit of direction in my year.

I responded to each person’s request for a soul call card in the comments so anyone reading could also access the heart guidance in it. As you know, I believe if we read something, there is likely a message in it for us. So, I’m glad you read through them.

Thank you so much for your kind words about my blog and what I share through this space! That means a lot because you’ve been in this community for quite a long time. I like that it still feels light and peaceful (it’s how I feel, at base, and that’s how I know, so many years in, that these practices ‘work’).

I know you technically missed the deadline, but I knew it was a ‘soft’ one. Of course, I’ll pull a card for you!!

When I pull cards and read them, I like to share an explanation of the physical space to kind of ‘bring it to Earth’ but also because sometimes there is a message in it that speaks to the recipient.

I’m going to pull all of the 2017 year-overview readings in the same space, because I like the feel of it. So, I smudged myself and the cards with white sage.

It’s important to note that it’s evening now and a ‘miracle’ happened today weather-wise. My area has been in severe drought for a few years and today was the second continuous day of rain!! While it might rain for a bit in one day, it hasn’t rained for two days, consistently, in a long time. That speaks straight to my soul about abundance in natural cycles. And, it’s a great reminder that something that’s been missing for a while can be perfectly placed.

In that, I just listened to a Kali Ma meditation (Kali Ma is a goddess who doesn’t do well with untruths – her own or others – she is passionate about her beliefs and life and she destroys whatever is in her path that is untrue quite quickly and without overthinking). While I listened, I felt guided to pull a card for you (maybe because your energy always reminds me of fiery passion).

With that, the card I pulled for you is *blessing* (that feels perfect, considering what I shared above about your intentions).

Blessing is quite layered, so let’s look at it. First, it’s important to understand what associations you have with the idea and practice of blessing something (as an action) and of blessing (being, receiving and sharing) as a noun.

I personally believe and practice that we can bless everything with our presence, with intention and specific energy (for me that is love and gratitude). I bless my thoughts, words and actions, I bless what I just experienced, what I am experiencing, what I will experience (sometimes as generic as that – usually quite specifically). I feel that blessing something opens my heart to the possibility in it, and opens the variables in it to my energy and a ‘positive’ experience in the unfolding.

So, let’s look at that. One layer of blessing, that I feel is ultra-important, is the reminder that your presence – your time, energy, attention, and sharing of creative expression in all ways – is a blessing. It’s a blessing for you to experience (that you have time, energy, attention and flow of creative expression and the choice on what to vest it all in, in each moment). It’s a blessing for all you directly and indirectly connect with to experience.

If one holds this idea that presence is a blessing, sharing presence becomes a sacred action, a practice of love. And things such as resonance, discernment, intention, boundaries become powerful tools to direct that energy and attention to places, people and experiences that support joyful, peaceful, ‘easy and fun’ growth. If one doesn’t hold the idea that *their specific presence* is a blessing, that shows where a potential block to flow, via a heart wound that hasn’t yet healed fully or still feels tender, is and that understanding is a ‘blessing’, on its own.

And, if we expand upon this, then we can also look at the space itself and the variables in it as blessings, there for us to connect with, to learn from, to celebrate. And we begin to appreciate the ‘connectedness’ in it all and feel that universal support – not because we’ve changed something externally, necessarily, but because we’ve shifted how we view it – expanding our awareness, simply by moving through daily life (or resting in it).

That’s another layer of blessing – counting your blessings. Feeling genuine gratitude for those blessings. Understanding how they come together to create this experience of life that you are currently in. Through that genuine gratitude, our energy expands, and with that comes *natural* healing and heart-opening.

And third layer is the act of blessings. We can bless anything/everything, intentionally coaxing out/bringing to surface, the light and love in it (even if it’s not presenting as light and love). I say something like ‘please show me the possibility and blessing in this, in joyful, easy to notice and receive ways’ before I step into a space or connect with someone or begin a project (or anything). And when I’ve completed something for the moment I say something like ‘please bless the seeds I’ve planted that are resonant with love, joy, abundance, connected-ness, peace – may they root, sprout, grown and blossom in ways far better and far more abundant than I can imagine or ask for’.

It doesn’t take much time to bless something, and it changes the way I feel and the way life feels when I practice blessing.

If I’m stuck, I bless it. If I’m flowing along awesomely, I bless it. I bless it all. And I believe that’s part of why I experience consistent blessings. I’m not saying ‘this is the way’; I’m sharing my energy with this word, because it’s been life-changing for me and inviting you to feel into it and consider playing with some of the practices I’ve mentioned.

*And*, because in your comment above you mentioned feeling a bit stuck about New Year’s resolutions ….what if you thought of 2017 as a block of time that is a blessing to experience, that is blessed to have your presence experiencing it, and is full of blessings to discover and celebrate? Would that change the feel of thinking forward into it and/or allowing unfolding in it?

With that, I am sure ‘blessing’ speaks to you in a specific way and has a meaning for you in a specific area.
