28 Days of Connection: Lisa Beck

Welcome to Day Six of 28 Days of Connection: Love Celebration!

It is a delight to introduce you to Lisa Beck.

Here is an excerpt from Lisa’s about page:

I believe that the universe supports you in becoming your biggest and boldest self.

By befriending our fears and celebrating our vulnerabilities, we cultivate greater courage, uplift and inspire the world, and step more into our truth and our power.

I believe we are here to break down the walls of resistance we have created and fall back in love with the wild and wondrous creatures that we were meant to be. I believe this life is supposed to be joyful and fun.”

I just met Lisa a few weeks ago in a workshop held by Kris Oster (my business coach and friend, who happens to live nearby). This is a story of how opening your heart through fear can enrich your life (and how I use the practices I “preach”).  I hadn’t met Kris in person yet; since her workshop was at my favorite local metaphysical store, and I had the time, I felt there wasn’t a reason not to attend. Well, except that in my mind, Kris is beautiful and successful and *amazing* times one trillion and if I was to compare (which I usually do not!) I did not feel that about myself. But, I really wanted to meet Kris, I loved the workshop topic and I loved the space. So I breathed into it and I attended.

Kris welcomed me with open arms. The workshop was wonderful. My spirit was refreshed. Lisa is one of Kris’s friends and was also in attendance. As we participated in the workshop, we each shared from heart space – and Lisa’s energy is so open, full of life and celebration and also centered and simply *fun*. Lisa led us in a short body movement exercise – she was kind, gentle, and had each woman moving and celebrating at their own pace.  Connecting with Lisa was one of many gifts from that workshop experience – that I only attended because love nudged me to.

When I began creating this series, I reached out to Lisa and asked her to participate. I knew the theme would resonate yet, she didn’t “know me” so I wasn’t sure what her response would be. I asked anyway *grin*. And she immediately responded with her answers. I want for you to experience her energy, so I asked her to include a video – and she did.

This is sometimes how Love is. You open to it and you find yourself in familiar spaces with new people. You find yourself in a hug with a person whom you just now met, but feel you have known for many lifetimes previous. You find yourself laughing and sharing from inner core and moving in a slightly different, yet enlivening way.

And when mind says ‘uh, love, what are you doing?!’, you breathe into it and center into presence and your mind relaxes and you keep stretching, and you realize, huh, I am living infinite possibility. (At which point, you have a choice: to thank love or to push it away. I choose to thank love; thus, this series and Lisa’s presence within it).

Here are Lisa’s answers:

1. What is your definition of love?

Love is the energetic vibration of divine power and light that we are here to express and cultivate in our lives – as us and through us.

2. What does it feel like when you are connected with love?

When I am connected with love, I feel fluid, alive, free, energized, and light. I feel a tingling sensation in my heart center, open, available, surrendered.

3. In your opinion, why would one choose to close to love? From that closed space, what is one practice or step a person could take to open to love again?

In my own experience I have closed myself to love when I felt that I needed protection from possible future hurt. I have also closed to love when I felt frustrated, disappointed, anxious, worried.

One practice that helps me to open to love is through the breath. Conscious breath work brings me to the present moment and enlivens my cells and my entire being. I remember why I’m here and who I am when I let go through the breath.

4. How do you choose to cultivate love?

I cultivate love through my spiritual practices, rituals and self-care practices (meditation, breath work, forgiveness work, journaling, chanting, sacred dance, yoga, clean food and prayer).

I choose to cultivate love by being of service and by being grateful every single day. I choose to cultivate love by immersing myself in my art (writing, choreography, dance, drumming, singing). I also cultivate love by sharing what inspires me and moves me with others.

5. May you share an experience of receiving unconditional love?

From the time I was a baby I have felt unconditional love from my parents. They have never pushed me or pressured me into anything. They accept and love me no matter what. They are my biggest supporters and number one fans. I am incredibly grateful that I was brought into this world surrounded in so much love, acceptance and support.

I can remember as a tiny baby the love and tenderness that I felt from these two people. And now I understand that this is the love of the universe – that it is available to each one of us at all times. It isn’t always coming from the people that brought us up, but when we connect to it through a friend, loved one, pet, teacher, nature, etc., it feels limitless and deep.

6. What would you like us to know about love?

I want you to know that the love that is available to you is beyond anything you could ever dream of. It is always here, always ready for us to open to it. When we close our eyes, breathe deeply into our heart and recall a recent memory where we felt love/bliss/joy/ecstasy, we are able to tap into this love stream.

By focusing on our own ability to cultivate and express love, we invite and attract more love into our experience. When we forgive ourselves and others, we are set free and we are open to joy.
